The Bay of Fundy is the large body of saltwater that separates New Brunswick and Nova Scotia off the nothern coast of Maine. The Bay, is not only home to the highest tides in the world, but is among the most prolific feeding grounds for whales in North America. The Bay is a complex ecosystem that supports a variety of whale species, including the Humpback Whale and the endangered North Altantic Right Whale.

During the summer months, the abundance of whales in the Bay of Fundy has given rise to a new 'whale watching' economy in many of the small fishing communities that dot the jagged coastline. Two of the most important communities in Nova Scotia are Brier Island and Long Island, off Digby Neck, in the south western part of the province. The picturesque fishing community of Westport, Brier Island has been called 'The Whale Watching Capital of Nova Scotia'.
